Past and the future of sand tray play : general considerations using sand tray play as a counseling tool in counseling

본 연구는 내면의 소리에 귀 기울이게 하는 데에서 탁월한 기능이 있는 모래상자 놀이를 상담의 매체로 사용하는 데에서 상담자가 고려해야 할 사항들을 탐색하는데 목적을 두고 실시되었다. 모래상자 놀이의 특성을 살펴보았고, 치료기법으로서의 모래상자 놀이와 상담매체로서의 모래상자 놀이를 간단히 비교했으며 이제까지 한국에서 발표된 모래상자 놀이 관련의 석 박사학위 논문 103편을 분석하였다. 분석의 기본은 치료기법으로서의 모래상자 놀이와 상담매체로서의 모래상자 놀이를 분류하는데 두었고, 분석한 내용은 연구주제 및 치료목표, 연구 대상자의 특성, 모래상자 놀이의 진행방법, 효과의 검증방법, 상담자의 역할이다. 본 연구의 결과를 종합해보면 모래상자 놀이의 고유한 특성은 모래상자 놀이를 하는 것 자체만으로도 치료적 장점이 있고, 모래상자에 있는 내담자의 작품은 내담자의 감정과 연상을 오랫동안 지속시키기 때문에 상담은 내담자의 진행속도에 맞추어야 하지만 상담자가 보다 구체적이고 객관적인 역할을 해야 한다.

The purpose of this research was to investigate general considerations for the counselors using sand tray play as a counseling tool. It was examined the therapeutic characteristics of sand tray play and compared two types of platforms, between as a therapeutic method and as a counseling tool, using sand tray therapy. Doctoral and master theses, which were published in Korea, were analyzed. The items were studied in the followings, 1) Research topics, 2) Characteristics of subjects, 3) Program manual for sand tray play, 4) Examination of the effect of sand tray play program, and 5) Roles of counselors. In conclusion, the findings of this study show us that the unique characteristics of sand tray play, by itself, could lead to therapeutic effects. Counselors should adopt the program depending on the progress of his/her clients, because the client’s responses through the production on the sand tray play may continue his/her feelings or the association of ideas for a long time. Counselors should play more systemic and more objective roles in the program.
