모래놀이치료에 나타난 ‘양(羊)’의 상징

The Symbols of Sheep in The Sandplay Therapy

인간의 의식의 영역에 들어오는 창조는 본능과 원형의 부분을 통하여 오기 때문에 동물로 표현되는 본능을 의식화 하는 것은 특히 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 모래놀이치료에 자주 등장하는 동물인 ‘양(羊)’에 대하여 생태학적, 문화적인 특징과 상징적인 의미를 고찰하여 모래놀이치료사로서 모래상자에 나타나는 ‘양(羊)’의 상징적 의미를 더욱 깊이 이해하고자 하였다. ‘양(羊)’의 생태적인 습성은 무리를 지어 살며, 온순하고, 철에 따라 이동하며 인간에게 유익하지만 목자를 필요로 한다. 우리문화 속에 나타난 ‘양(羊)’의 특징은 실질적인 동물이기 보다는 성스러운 짐승으로 표현되었다. ‘양(羊)’의 상징적인 의미로 아기 양은 하얀색, 순결, 단순성으로서 아침, 봄, 자연의 부드러움과 재생으로 상징화된다. 숫양은 불같은 생명력의 남성성을 의미하며 ‘얻기 힘든' 의식과 영웅적인 면을 표상 한다. 사회적 동물인 양은 집단성과 신성한 선한 목자의 상징이 있다. 그리고 제의의 희생물로서 양은 정서적 안정과 사회적 질서와 구원을 뜻하는 Self 상징의 의미로 표상되기도 한다. 본 모래놀이치료에 나타난 양의 상징적 의미는 1) 30대 미혼 여성의 사례에서, 어미 양이 아기 양들을 돌보는 모습을 통하여, 치유되며 내담자의 모성성이 발달하는 것으로 나타났다. 2) 55세 여성의 사례에 나타난 양은 희생 제물로 표상 되었다. 숫양 같은 깊은 심층의 본능적인 힘을 의식화시키면서 아니무스의 발달로 대극의 통합을 이루어 개성화의 길을 가는 과정을 표현하였다. 3) 사춘기 12세 중학생의 상자에 나타난 외로운 양은 양떼로 들어가서 집단세계에 적응하는 모습을 보여주었다. 자아가 강화되면서 통과의례를 통하여 남성적인 숫양으로 변환된 모습을 나타내었다. 숫양 옆의 새가 아니마의 발달의 시작을 알려주었다. 이처럼 모래놀이치료에서 나타난 ‘양(羊)’의 상징적 의미는 사례마다 각기 다르게 표현되었지만 궁극적으로는 자기 정체성을 찾고, 자기통합을 이루어가는 개성화의 목적이 있음을 보여주었다.

Since the creation that enters the realm of human consciousness comes through instincts and archetypes (von Franz, 2014), it is especially important to make conscious the instincts expressed as animals in Sandplay Therapy. In this study, we examined the ecological and cultural characteristics and symbolic meanings of sheep, which are animals that often appear in Sandplay Therapy, to gain a deeper understanding of the Sand boxes as a therapist. The ecological habits of the sheep live in groups, are meek, and are beneficial to humans, but require shepherds. Rather than being a real animal, the sheep in our culture were represented by sacred beasts that were beautiful, good, elated, doting, and devoted to heaven. It is a symbolic meaning of 'sheep', and the baby sheep are symbolized by the tenderness and regeneration of nature in the morning, spring, and nature as white, chastity and simplicity. Ram refers to the masculinity of fiery vitality and represents the 'hard-to-obtain' consciousness and heroic aspects. Sheep, social animals, have collectivity and symbols of divine good shepherds. And as a sacrifice of offer, sheep are also represented by emotional stability and symbolism of social order and salvation. The symbols of Sheep in Sandplay Therapy is that it is aimed at Self-integration. The symbolic meaning of the sheep in this Sandplay Therapy is 1) In the case of an unmarried woman in her 30s, maternity of the client is improved. 2) The sheep in the case of a 55-year-old woman was expressed as a sacrifice. The client expressed the process of individuation through the development of the animus. 3) The lonely sheep that appeared in the box of a 12-year-old middle school student, it moved towards the flock. As the client passed through the bridge, transformed into a masculine ram. By placing the fences on either side, the ability to control emotions was indicated. As such, the symbolic meaning of ‘sheep’ in Sandplay Therapy was expressed in different ways in each case, but ultimately it showed that there is a purpose of Self-realization of finding one’s own identity and achieving Individuation.
