고경력 중년 남성 퇴직자의 연령주의 경험에 대한 현상학적 탐구

The Phenomenological Study on the Ageism Experience of White-collar Male Retirees

본 연구는 고경력 중년 남성 퇴직자의 연령주의 경험과 대처 양상을 van Manen의 해석학적 현상학적 연구방법으로 탐구함으로써 그 본질을 이해하기 위해 수행되었다. 이를 위하여 고경력 중장년의 재취업 교육에 참여한 남성 8인을 면담하고 이를 귀납적이고 순환적인 방법으로 분석하며 해석하였다. 분석과 해석의 과정에서 면담 자료 외에 연구주제와 관련된 문학 작품도 참고하였다. 연구 결과, 참여자의 연령주의 경험에서 여덟 개의 주제를 발견하고, 이를 ‘달라진 것 없는 나를 주변으로 밀어냄’의 주변화 경험, ‘나이로 나를 규정하고 나이로 나를 제한함’의 타자화 경험, 그리고 ‘불가피한 현실에 나를 맞추며 다시 나아감’의 주체적 대처 경험이라는 세 개의 범주로 제시하였다. 나아가 이를 관통하는 연령주의 경험의 본질을 ‘나이만 남고 내가 사라진 세상에서 나를 다시 찾아 세우고자 애씀’으로 규정하고, 이를 토대로 변화하는 고령층에 대한 복지정책의 방향성을 논의하고 후속 연구를 제안하였다.

This study, using van Manen's hermeneutic phenomenological method, aimed to describe and interpret the essential concept of ageism as experienced by middle-aged male retirees who had stable white-collar jobs and are now seeking bridge employment. For this purpose, eight participants were interviewed and their verbatim data were analyzed and interpreted in an inductive and cyclical manner. The ageism experiences of the participants were categorized as 'being pushed off as if I have changed,' 'facing age-based prejudice and norms,' and 'trying to fit in and pushing forward.' The essential meaning of their ageism experiences was defined as “trying to restore myself and stand firm in the world where I am nothing but my age”. Based on the results, measures to improve social work practice for middle-aged male retirees were discussed and directions for future research were suggested.
