Design of Social Empathy Education for Social Integration between the Two Koreas

Purpose Unification education, it is necessary to go beyond simply emphasizing a single nation and to feel cultural homogeneity and differences from a mutual cultural point of view, and to arouse emotional sensitivity and sympathy for the need for unification. There is a need for civic unification education aimed at integration through understanding cultural differences between the two Koreas and empathy and mutual understanding. Accordingly, this study proposes social empathy ability for social integration between the two Koreas through an emotional approach in unification education and seeks to explore unification education plans based on this. Method Through literature research, the need for social empathy ability to overcome differences between the two Koreas is raised. In addition, social empathy education is devised to resolve not only political unification but also socio-cultural heterogeneity between the two Koreas. Finally, based on the social empathy learning model, a social empathy-based unification education learning model is specifically presented. Results TThe contents of step-by-step learning of social empathy-based unification education are as follows. The first stage is a stage where empathic meetings take place in terms of personal empathy, and the issue of division between the two Koreas is correctly recognized. The second stage is the stage in which empathic inquiry is conducted in terms of social empathy. The third stage is the stage of empathic experience, which is the stage of looking at others from the perspective of others and experiencing the lives of different groups. Finally, the fourth stage is the stage of seeking sympathetic practice as a democratic citizen based on a sympathetic understanding of the division of the two Koreas. Accordingly, it is expected that problem recognition through empathic meeting leads to problem-solving through empathic inquiry and empathic experience and problem-solving through empathic practice.
