농인(聾人) 지도자의 역할정체성 형성과정에 관한 생애사 연구

A Life History Study on the Process of Role Identification of Deaf Leader

본 연구는 농인 사회에서 오랫동안 지도자로 활동하고 있는 농인이 자신의 사회적 위치에서 부여받은 역할수행 경험에 따른 정체성의 형성과정을 탐구하는 데 목적이 있다. 농인 사회 전체의 복지향상을 모색하기 위해서 농인 사회 지도자인 농아인협회 단체장(수어통역센터장)의 역할수행 과정의 경험을 연구하는 것은 매우 중요하다. 연구참여자의 삶과 농인 사회 지도자로서 다양한 경험에 대한 역사적 흐름을 파악하기 위해 생애사 연구방법을 적용하여 자료를 수집하고 분석하였다. 연구참여자는 어렸을 때 사고로 청각장애인이 되었으며 농인 학교를 졸업했고, 20년 이상 농아인협회 단체장으로 있는 60대의 농인이다. 연구참여자의 역할정체성 형성과정의 의미는‘농인으로 살아감’,‘농인과 조직을 위해 노력함’,‘갈등을 넘어섬’,‘사회적 역할수행으로 보람을 찾음’,‘비전을 가짐’으로 도출되었다. 이러한 연구결과는 농인의 복지향상을 위해서 가장 큰 역할을 담당하고 있는 농인 지도자의 역할정체성이 어떻게 형성되어 가는지를 확인하였다는 데 의의가 있다. 그리고 농인 지도자에 대한 사회적 인식 개선과 이들이 역할정체성을 확립할 수 있는 다양한 복지정책 수립에 기초자료로 사용될 것으로 기대한다.

The purpose of this study is to explore the process of forming an identity according to the experience of performing the role given by deaf people who have long been leaders in a deaf society. In order to seek to improve the welfare of the entire deaf society, it is very important to study the experience of the role of the head of the deaf association (head of the Sign Language Interpretation Center). Data were collected and analyzed by applying the life history research method to understand the historical flow of various experiences as the research participant's life and the a leader of deaf society. Participants in the study became deaf in an accident when they were young, graduated from a deaf school, and are deaf people in their 60s who have been the head of the Association for the Deaf for more than 20 years. The meaning of the process of forming the role identity of the study participants was derived as ‘living as a deaf person’, ‘working for the deaf and the organization’, ‘overcoming conflict’, ‘finding rewards by performing social roles’, and ‘being vision’. The results of this study are meaningful in that they confirmed how the role identity of the leader, a deaf person who plays the biggest role in improving the welfare of the deaf person is formed. In addition, it is expected that it will be used as basic data for improving social awareness of deaf leaders and establishing various welfare policies for them to establish role identity.
