Walking Curriculum as a Practical Method of ESR

연구목적: 이 연구는 상상력 교육 프로그램으로 고안된 ‘Walking Curriculum(이하 워킹 커리큘럼)’을 ESR 실천 방안으로 제안하고자 한다. 연구방법: 이를 위해 워킹 커리큘럼의 목적과 의의를 분석하여 워킹 커리큘럼을 통한 사회적 책임 의식 고양의 가능성을 알아보고, ESR 실천을 위한 워킹 커리큘럼의 실제를 탐구해보았다. 연구결과: 첫째, 워킹 커리큘럼과 ESR은 ‘세계와의 상호의존성’, ‘실제 사회 문제 탐구’라는 공통의 목표를 가진다. 따라서 워킹 커리큘럼을 통한 사회적 책임 의식 고양이 가능할 것으로 보인다. 둘째, 워킹 커리큘럼 실행에 핵심이 되는 인지도구의 활용은 상상력 발달뿐만 아니라 세계와의 감정적 유대를 강화시켜 사회 문제를 실천적 태도로 마주하게 한다. 이러한 인지도구의 활용은 ESR 실천을 위한 실질적인 전략이 될 수 있다. 논의 및 결론: 워킹 커리큘럼은 ESR의 실천적 방안이 될 수 있으나, 한국의 입시 중심 교육 문화를 고려하여 교과 내용과 연계된 프로그램 또는 교과 외 시간에 활용할 수 있는 프로그램으로 재구성한다면 더욱 효과적으로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to propose the ‘Walking Curriculum’ - which was originally designed for imaginative education - as a practical method of ESR(Education for Social Responsibility). Method: To this end, researchers examined the possibility of raising students’ ESR competence through the Walking Curriculum by analyzing the Walking Curriculum’s purpose and significance. Then, researchers explored the practicality of the Walking Curriculum for ESR practice. Results: First, the Walking Curriculum and ESR had common goals of ‘understanding interdependence with the world’ and ‘exploring real social problems.’ Therefore, it seemed that it could enhance students’ social responsibility through implementing the Walking Curriculum. Second, the use of cognitive tools, which was the core of the Walking Curriculum, not only developed students’ imagination but also strengthened emotional bonds with the world to face social problems with a practical attitude. It seemed that the use of these cognitive tools can be a practical strategy for ESR practice. Conclusion: Although the Walking Curriculum can be a practical method for ESR, it can be used more effectively if it is reorganized into a program related to the main curriculum or extra-curricular activity in consideration of Korea’s educational culture that focuses on college entrance.
