The purpose of this study is to develop a system thinking inquiry module for earth science subjects that can be used in the high school credit system. The developed module and system thinking evaluation rubric were applied to general high schools in which the high school credit system is implemented. A total of 70 general high school students were analyzed for concept understanding through system thinking, and curriculum consistency and field suitability were analyzed through cases confirmed in the scoring process. The results of this study are as follows: first, the unit of interaction between the atmosphere and the ocean in the core concepts of the 2015 revised science curriculum and the Earth Science I textbook were analyzed, and a six-topic exploration module was developed. Second, based on the results of sementic network analysis, causal map and visual thinking map scoring criteria were developed to analyze concept understanding through system thinking. Third, as a result of applying it to Earth Science I of the in-school curriculum, Advanced Earth Science of the collaborative curriculum between schools, and Marine Club classes of creative experience activities, it was confirmed that students understand the interaction between the atmosphere and the ocean by applying system thinking. In addition, based on the verified curriculum consistency and field suitability, a plan that can be used for high school science subjects was proposed. This study will provide implications for the system thinking-based inquiry module of the earth science curriculum in preparation for the high school credit system and provide many implications for setting the direction of writing textbooks by applying system thinking to the next-generation revised curriculum.
