Nonfunctioning paraganglioma of the urinary bladder: about a case and review of the literature

  • 10

Extra-adrenal pheochromocytoma (paraganglioma) of the urinary bladder is unusual and usually presents with hematuria and fluctuating hypertension. Non-functioning paraganglioma of the urinary bladder is rare and usually misdiagnosed. Histopathology plays a major role in definitive diagnosis in the absence of unique clinical presentations. We describe a case of non-functioning paraganglioma of the urinary bladder in a 43-year-old female who had no signs and symptoms. The tumor was removed by transurethral resection. The postoperative recovery and follow-up were uneventful. It may present clinical, radiological and histopathological features similar to bladder cancer. Clinical and pathological awareness to avoid misdiagnosis of paraganglioma of the urinary bladder is discussed with literature review.
