만 3세 유아들의 COVID-19 관련 경험과 생각에 대한 내러티브 분석

Narrative Analysis of 3 Year Old Children’s COVID-19 Related Experiences and Thoughts

본 연구는 COVID-19 바이러스 전염병이 세계 각국으로 확산되어 그 영향력을 완화하려는 보호 조치가 강화됨에 따라 어린 유아들이 어떤 경험을 하게 되었는지 그들의 목소리를 통해 고찰해 보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위하여 서울특별시 강서구 Y병설유치원 만 3세반 7명의 유아들을 대상으로 하여 2021년 4월 1일부터 11월 30일까지 매주 1회 33회의 이야기나누기 시간을 가졌다. 이야기나누기의 내용은 가정에서의 경험, 일상 경험, 경험에 대한 감정과 변화, 미래에 대한 예상에 대한 내용이었다. 내러티브는 프뢰벨식 교육학적 스토리텔링 접근 방식으로 분석되었으며(Froebel, 1887) 연구 결과 COVID-19 확산 기간동안 만3세 유아들은 COVID-19로 인한 폐쇄성과 침묵을 경험하였다. 반대로 유아들은 COVID-19기간 동안의 가족간의 연결 고리로서의 화합과 통합을 경험하였다. 다음으로 유아들은 COVID-19로 인한 해체이후의 새로운 회복과 생명에 대한 점진적 이해를 반영하는 내러티브를 드러내었으며 실외활동에 대한 내러티브의 증가는 COVID-19시대에 더욱 중요해진 자연과 실외활동의 가치를 나타냈다. 본 연구는 출생 직후부터 COVID-19의 직접적인 영향에 노출되어 만3세까지 성장한 유아들의 경험 이야기를 직접적으로 들어봄으로 유아들의 COVID-19관련 경험이 어떠한 의미를 가지는지 프뢰벨식의 접근 방법으로 고찰해보는데 그 의의가 있다.

This study aims to investigate what children experienced due to the strengthening of protective measures meant to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 viral disease’s global spread from their perspective. To this end, discussions were had with 7 children, 3 and a half years old, attending Y Kindergarten in Gangseo-gu, Seoul 1 times a week, 33 times total from April 1st, 2021 to November 30th, 2021. The discussions were about experiences at home, experiences in daily life, changes in feelings toward experiences, and predictions about the future. The narrative was analyzed with the Froebelian pedagogical storytelling approach (Froebel, 1887), and results showed that three year old children experienced isolation and silence during the spread of COVID-19. On the other hand, children also experienced unity and integration through connection with their family during the pandemic. Furthermore, children revealed a narrative of gradually understanding recovery and life in a new way after dispersion due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the increase in narratives about outdoor activity showed the increased importance of the value of nature and outdoor activity during the COVID-19 era. By directly hearing about the experiences of children raised until the age of three exposed to the direct impact of COVID-19 from birth, this study is meaningful in that it investigates the meaning of children’s COVID-19 related experiences through the Froebelian approach.
