자유놀이에서 놀이지원에 대한 유아와 교사의 생각 들여다보기

Perceptions of children and a teacher in the classroom regarding the role in supporting play during free-choice time

본 연구에서는 자유놀이시간에 일어나는 놀이지원에 대한 유아와 교사의 생각을 알아보고자 S시에 소재한 H유치원 만4세 햇살반 유아 20명과 교사의 생각을 알아보았다. 연구결과 첫째, 교사는 공동놀이자, 새로운 아이디어와 자료 제공, 정서적 지지 등을 통해 유아의 놀이를 지원하였고, 유아들은 이로 인해 놀이가 활성화되었다고 생각하였다. 둘째, 교사는 질문 등을 통해 놀이를 변화시키거나 친구와 놀이할 수 있는 기회를 제공하였으나 유아들은 이러한 놀이지원이 자신의 놀이를 방해한다고 생각하였다. 셋째, 유아들은 함께 놀이하거나 갈등 중재, 도움의 양을 조절하는 것과 관련된 교사의 지원에 대해 자신의 관심과 흥미, 놀이 상황 등에 따라 서로 다른 반응을 보였다. 넷째, 교사는 유아가 놀이를 진행할 때 안전의 문제는 없는지, 놀이를 교육적인 주제와 어떻게 연결시키면 좋은지, 동시다발적인 교실 상황에서 유아들에게 적절한 놀이지원은 무엇인지 등과 같은 고민들을 하고 있었다. 의미있는 놀이지원이 되기 위해서는 세심하고 주의 깊은 관찰을 통해 어떠한 의도로 놀이지원할 것인지, 유아가 필요로 하는 놀이지원은 무엇인지, 언제 어떻게 지원할 것인지 등을 고려해야 한다.

The purpose of this study is to examine the thoughts of young children and teacher on play support occurring during free play time. 20 four-years-old children and 1 teacher from H kindergarten in S city took part in the study. First, the teacher supported children’s play by being a co-player, providing new ideas and resources, and emotional support. The children believed that the play was expanded in a more fun way and it got vitalized. Secondly, the teacher changes the play through questions or provides opportunities playing with friends, whereas the children thought that play support disrupts their play when they want to play in their own ways. Thirdly, the children’s reaction to the teacher’s play support related to playing together, mediating conflicts, and controlling the amount of help varied depending on their interests and play situations. Fourthly, the teacher was concerned about safety issues while playing, the connection between the play and educational subjects, and appropriate play support in simultaneous situations in the classroom. Being a close and careful observation is required for meaningful play support for the children. The teacher should consider what the intention of the play support is, what play support the children need, and when and how to support them.
