This paper intensively examines the activities and literature of Ga Y uyak(賈維鑰; Jia Weiyao), the founder of the Haedong(海東; Korea) bra nch of the Suzhou Ga family(蘇州賈氏), who entered Joseon when it w as invaded by Japanese troops (1592-1598; Imjin War; 壬辰倭亂). Ga Yuyak passed the Gwageo examination to choose high-level gove rnment officials in 1589. He entered Joseon two times during the period of Imjinwar. He entered Joseon in 1593 for the first time as a comman der of the troops of Ming China sent to Joseon to help Joseon to fight against Japanese troops. He served as the inspector of Ming soldiers a nd distributer of the Emperor's orders. He entered Joseon again in 159 9, and led in designing strategies to defend against future Japanese att acks. Ga Yuyak was an excellent literary man. He had profound knowledg e in a wide range of fields. He was also a good calligrapher, and, in p articular, excellent in music.
