Military Life Stress and Levels of Gambling and Smartphone Use among Soldiers: Exploring the Moderating Effect of Perceived Social Support

이 연구의 목적은 병사의 군 생활 스트레스와 도박 및 스마트폰 사용 수준의 관계에서 지각된 사회적 지지의 조절 효과를 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 군 복무 중인 병사(n=205)를 대상으로 온라인 및 오프라인 설문조사를 실시한 후 위계적 회귀분석을 통해 자료를 분석하였다. 주요 결과로 첫째, 연구대상자의 12.2%가 문제 도박에 해당하고, 7.8%가 스마트폰 과의존이었다. 둘째, 주관적 경제 상태를 낮게 인식할수록 도박수준에, 종교가 있는 경우와 군 생활 스트레스가 높을수록 스마트폰 사용 수준에 유의미한 영향을 미치었다. 셋째, 지각된 사회적 지지가 낮을수록 도박 및 스마트폰 사용 수준이 모두 유의미하게 증가하였으나 군 생활 스트레스와 도박 수준, 군 생활 스트레스와 스마트폰 사용 수준의 관계에서 지각된 사회적 지지의 조절 효과는 발생하지 않았다. 연구 결과에 기반하여 병사의 중독 행동 예방 및 조기개입을 위한 사회복지 실천 및 정책에의 시사점을 논의하였다.

The purpose of this study is to explore the influences of military life stress on addictivebehaviors such as gambling and smartphone use among soldiers, and to investigate themoderating effect of the perceived social support. Soldiers (n=205) participated in online andoffline surveys, and then the collected data were analyzed by hierarchical regression analysis. Themain findings are as follows. First, about 12.2% of the subjects were categorized into a gamblingproblem group, and about 7.8% of them fell into a smartphone over-dependence group. Second,economic status significantly affected the level of gambling. In addition, religion and the levelof military life stress were significant variables influencing the level of smartphone use. Third,the level of gambling and smartphone use were significantly predicted by perceived socialsupport. However, perceived social support did not have moderating effect on the relationshipsbetween military life stress and gambling level; and between military life stress and smartphoneuse level. Based on the results, implications for practice and policy in the field of military socialwork were discussed to prevent addictive behaviors of soldiers and to intervene in them at anearly stage.
