가족돌봄청년(영 케어러:Young Carer)의 일상생활에 관한 질적 사례연구

Qualitative Case Study on the Daily Life of a Young Carer in South Korea

본 연구는 가족돌봄청년의 일상생활을 시간사용의 맥락을 통해 이해하고자하는 목적으로 본질적 사례연구를 수행하였다. 가족돌봄청년 4명을 대상으로 시간사용일지와 심층면접을 통해 자료를 수집하여 사례내 분석과 사례간 분석을 실시하였다. 사례 내 분석은 연구참여자의 가족관계, 경제적 형편, 돌봄, 일과 학업에 관한 상황과 시간사용의 특징을 분석하였다. 사례 간 분석은 공통되는 경험을 구조화하는 방법을 사용하여 ‘영 케어러가 된 배경과 상황’, ‘영 케어러의 다양한 돌봄 역할’, ‘동년배 청년과 다른 영 케어러의 일상’, ‘영 케어러가 당면한 어려움’, “영 케어러가 돌봄을 지탱하는 힘’의 5가지 구성요소를 도출하였다. 분석결과를 통해 가족돌봄청년을 위한 사회복지 실천과 정책적 제안을 제시하였고, 돌봄 부담으로 가족이 갖는 중요 기능과 가치가 희석되지않고 사회적 돌봄 시스템의 강화와 다양한 체계적 개입을 통해 영 케어러 개인과 공동체 발달 및 성장이 이뤄지길 기대한다.

This study aimed to understand the daily life of a young carer within the time usage context. We collected data from four young carers through a time diary and in-depth interview. Within case analysis focused on the participants’ family relations, economic status, caring status, occupation, academic status, and time usage patterns. Between case analysis structured the commonly shared experiences of these young carers and identified five components: ‘how I became a young carer: personal background and situation,’ ‘diverse caring roles as a young carer,’ ‘life of a young carer is different from other young adults,’ ‘hardship faced by a young carer,’ and ‘power to continue caring.’ The current study offered practice- and policy-level implications for young carer in South Korea. A family’s core function and value should not be mitigated due to caring responsibility; therefore, we urge for the reinforcement of social support system and the implementation of systematic interventions.
