This study evaluated the validity and reliability of the Happiness Scale for School-aged Korean Children (HSSKC) through confirmatory factor analysis. A total of 190 students (91 boys, 99 girls) in the 4th and 5th grades in elementary school participated in this study. The instruments included the 29-item HSSKC (Choi et al., 2009), the School Adjustment Scale (SAS; Joe, 2014), and the Children’s Daily Hassles scale (CDH; Kim & Park, 2006). The HSSKC was confirmed and supported the construct of six factors: self-esteem, parent-child relationship, school life, after-school activities, general living environment, and satisfaction of needs, along with 29 items on the lines of the HSSKC (2009). Inter-correlations between sub-factors of HSSKC with those of criterion measures were validated by ratings from the SAS and CDH. The reliability coefficients of the sub-factors of the HSSKC (Cronbach’s α) ranged from .69 to .87. Thus, the six-factor structure of the HSSKC was appropriate for the assessment of happiness among school-aged Korean children.
