토픽모델링을 활용한 교육정보화 이슈 분석: 교육정보화 기본계획 및 코로나19에 따른 변화를 중심으로

Discovering Trends of Information and Communication Technology in Education Using Topic Modeling

본 연구는 국내 교육정보화 정책의 사회적 방향성을 탐색하기 위해 교육정보화 기본계획이 최초 수립된 1996년부터 2022년까지 27년간의 뉴스 기사를 구조적 토픽모델링(Structural Topic Modeling, STM)을 활용하여 분석하였다. 특히 본 연구는 첫째, 교육정보화 정책의 차수별 핵심 주제 변화의 흐름을 살피며, 둘째, 비대면 온라인교육으로의 급격한 변화를 야기한 코로나19 이후에 주목받은 주제가 무엇인지 밝히고, 마지막으로 교육정보화의 정책적 및 학문적 영역을 중심으로 관련 토픽들의 변화 양상을 논의하였다. 첫 번째, 시기별 변화에 대한 분석결과는 교육정보화 분야에 대한 사회적 관심이 단순한 인프라 구축에서 더 나아가 국내외 사회적 통합을 도모하기 위한 활동으로 이동하고 있는 것을 발견하였다. 두 번째, 코로나19 발생 이후 소외계층 지원 및 해외원조 등 사회적 약자를 배려하고 지원하는 토픽이 많은 관심을 받는 것을 확인하였다. 마지막으로 특정 요인에 대한 토픽이 다른 토픽에 비하여 편중되면서 상대적으로 관심을 받지 못하는 주제가 존재함을 발견하였다. 이러한 발견을 통해, 본 논문은 향후 연구주제 및 정책 방향 수립에 시사점을 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대되며, 또한 교육정보화에 대하여 더욱 균형 있고 다채로운 사회적 논의가 필요함을 시사한다.

This paper employs structural topic modeling (STM) to examine the issues and trends in information and communications technology (ICT) in education, analyzing newspaper data spanning from 1996, when the Korean government established its initial Basic Plan for ICT in education, to 2022. The objective of this study was to investigate the following: (a) the primary topics of ICT in education and their changing trends in each period of the basic plan, (b) emerging topics post-Covid-19, and (c) trends in the topics in the context of the policy and academic components necessary for successful implementation of ICT in education. Based on the results of STM, this study determines that (a) the primary topic has transitioned from infrastructure development to the inclusion of the marginalized in both domestic and international ways, (b) topics related to social integration and educational equity have emerged post-Covid-19, and (c) topics for ICT in education are limited in scope and unequally distributed. This research aims to enhance and enrich scientific inquiry and policy development regarding ICT in education and suggests the need for varied and balanced discussions on the development of ICT in education.
