한국전쟁 발생 전후, 한 석유상의 경험과 기억

A Korean Oil Dealer’s Experience and Memory before and after the Outbreak of the Korean War

이 글은 반세기 석유 유통업에 종사한 한 석유상이 남긴 자서전을 중심으로 한국전쟁 발생을 전후한 시기 한국 석유사의 한 단면을 미시적으로 살펴본 것이다. 이 자서전에는 그가 석유 유통업에 종사하면서 겪은 경험과 기억이 한국 현대사의 흐름 속에 오롯이 담겨있다. 특히 한국 정부 수립 후 그가 석유업계로 진출하는 과정, 한국전쟁 당시 국내의 석유 유통 상황, 석유 대리점 허가가 취소되고 재기하는 과정 등이 여과 없이 적나라하게 서술되어 있다. 이러한 그의 경험과 기억은 한국전쟁 발생 전후 한국 석유와 관련된 자료와 연구가 상당히 빈약한 상황에서 당시 한국의 석유 유통 상황을 이해하는 데 중요한 정보를 제공해 준다. 그의 자서전은 당시 소자본가가 형성되는 과정의 한 단면을 엿볼 수 있다는 측면에서도 중요한 의미가 있다.

This article examined a microscopic aspect of Korean oil history before and after the outbreak of the Korean War, based on an autobiography left by an oil dealer. In this autobiography, his experiences and memories of working in the oil distribution industry are contained entirely in the flow of modern Korean history. In particular, the process of his entry into the oil industry after the establishment of the Korean government, the domestic oil distribution situation during the Korean War, and the process of revoking and reviving the oil agency’s license are clearly described without filtration. His experiences and memories provide important information for understanding the oil situation in Korea at the time when data and research related to Korean oil before and after the Korean War were quite poor.
