Purpose: This is a descriptive research study to examine the effect of perceived parenting attitude by nursing students on empathy and interpersonal competence. Methods: The study subjcets included nursing students from D University in Y City, G-do. Totally, data were obtained from 126 submitted copies, of which 121 copies were analyzed using the SPSS 21.0 program. Results: The factors affecting empathy were emotional warmth, followed by the number of siblings, the explanatory power was determined to be 21.7%. The factors affecting interpersonal competence were emotional warmth, followed by religion and overprotection, with an overall explanatory power of 31.6%. Conclusion: It is recognized that emotional warmth and more siblings rather than a single child improve the empathy of parents. Results of this study can be used as the basic data of parent education to enable a positive effect on the social skills and emotional development of children, by informing parents that emotional warmth, religion and overprotection are important factors that improve interpersonal competence.
