본연구는외국어로써의 영어와창의성과의 통합을위한교과과정에 관한문헌연구를 바탕으로 어떻게 창의성이 영어교육과 적절하게 연결되어전 수 있는지를 정리 및 제안하였다. 우리의 교육현장에서 많은 관심이 된 창의성의 개념을 이해하고 타 과목들, 과학, 수학, 국어 음악, 미술, 등에서 주목받는 창의성 개발이 왜 영어교육 현장에서는 그다지 적극직인 실천이 따르지 않는지를 몇 가지 관점에서 지적한다. 또한 영어교육 현장에서 사용되어지는 수렴직인 영어 학습 활동을 구분하고 이러한 수렴적인 교수방법에 상응하는 발산적 영어교수방법을 네 가지 기준 (유창성, 유연성, 정교성, 그리고 독창성)에 근거한 사고개발 기법과 학생들의 작품을 소개한다. 마지막으로 영 어교육과 창의성과의 통합을 이루기 위한 일곱 가지 전략들을 제안한다: 1) 영어수업이 언어적 목표가 있듯이 창의적 사고계발을 위한 목표도 포함되어져야한다; 2) 발산적 영어교수 및 학습을 위한 다양한 위크쉬트를 사용하여라; 3) 영어학습자의 선험지식을 위하여 삽화와 사진 등을 활용하여라; 4) 소집단 활동을 장려하여라; 5) 지나친 오류-수정을 피하여라; 6) 수렴적 영어교수 및 학습 뿐만 아니라 발산적 활동도 장려되어져야 된다; 7) 언어가 평가되듯이 학습자의 아이디어와 이해도 반드시 평가되어져야 한다.
This study analyzes curriculum and instruction for the integration creativity into English classroom. Thus, this study inspects why creative thinking skill, being focused on in many other subject areas such as sciences, mathematics, native language, music, and arts, is so little used in the field of English education. In addition, this study suggests the divergent thinking productions, contrasted with the convergent thinking productions English education still focuses on, for the creative English education based on the four standards (fluency, flexibility, elaboration, and originality) Guilford discussed. This study suggests the seven strategies for integrating English and creativity as follows: 1) Creative lessons and activities based on the four stages (fluency, flexibility, elaboration, and originality) need to be planned as carefully as language activities and integrated into lesson plans; 2) Use a variety of worksheets for divergent production ability through role-plays, brainstorming, and discussions; 3) Make good use of illustrations and photos for extracting students' prior knmvledge; 4) Use small-group techniques; 5) Avoid a strong error-correction; 6) Use the methods for divergent English teaching and learning; and 7) Test students' creative ideas and understanding as carefully as language is tested.
