사설학원 사교육에 참여한 특수교육대상학생 학부모의 경험과 의미

The Experience and Meaning of Parents of Students with special needs who Participate in Private Academy Education

이 연구의 목적은 사설학원 사교육에 참여하고 있는 특수교육대상학생 학부모의 경험과 의미를 알아봄으로써 특수교육적 시사점을 살펴보는 데 있다. 이 연구를 위해 자녀가 사설학원 사교육에 참여하고 있는 4명의 특수교육대상학생 학부모와 면담을 실시하였으며, 수집된 자료는 포괄적 분석절차를 통해 분석하였다. 분석 결과, ‘사설학원에 보내게 된 이유’, ‘정착하기 어려운 사설학원’, ‘사설학원 사교육이 부모에게 주는 의미’의 3가지 상위범주와 8개 하위범주, 22개의 의미단위를 구성하였다. 연구 결과를 살펴보면, 첫째, 특수교육대상학생 학부모가 자녀를 사설학원에 보낸 이유는 자녀가 학령기에 접어들면서 초등학교 교과과정 학습을 반드시 해야 한다는 인식, 공교육을 제대로 받기 위한 기본적인 학습태도를 익히게 하기 위함이었으며, 둘째, 이 과정에서 사설학원에서의 차별, 사설학원의 특수교육 전문성의 부족 등을 경험하였고, 셋째, 사설학원은 자녀들이 또래와 관계를 맺고 친밀함을 형성하는 공간, 학원교사의 관심과 지도로 학습에 대한 자신감 확보와 성장을 기대하는 공간, 부모의 어려움을 털어놓고 위로받는 공간이라는 의미를 지님을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 논의를 제시하고 후속연구에 대해 제언하였다.

The purpose of this study is to find out the experience and meaning of parents of students with special needs who participate in private academies education and to find out implications for private academy education and special education. For this study, interviews were conducted with four parents of special needs participating in private academy education. The interview data were analyzed through a comprehensive analysis procedure. As results of the study, it was analyzed in three upper categories, eight lower categories, and 22 semantic units: "Reasons for Sending Private Academy," "Difficulties of Parents and Children to Settle in Private Academy," and "The Meaning of Private Education for Parents of special needs who participate in Private Academy." Results of the study First, the reason why the parents who sent their children to private academies was that they had perception that the children had to learn elementary school curriculum, and to learn basic learning attitudes to receive public education properly. Second, it was difficult for the parents that their children settled down in the academy due to discrimination against the children and lack of special education expertise. Third, meaning of private academy education was found as a space where children with special needs made peer relationship and friendship, grew confidence and interest in learning with guidance of academy teachers, and a space opened to the parents to let them confessed and comforted. Based on the research results, discussions were presented and follow-up studies were suggested.
