Since orthodontic treatment changes the patient’s occlusion on an extensive scale, it is desirable to evaluate the function of occlusion and disability resulted by orthodontic treatment. Orthodontic treatment is a full mouth rehabilitation performed on natural teeth. Before looking through the studies about occlusion, we must think about why good occlusion is necessary. The occlusion is the relationship between the upper and lower jaw in contact during the movement of the mandible. Therefore, good occlusion refers to a condition that patients can function properly for a long period of time without non-physiological contact during the mandibular movement. In addition, good occlusion does not cause occlusion-related diseases or, in minimum. Therefore, when a new occlusion is constructed with an occlusion treatment, comprehensive consideration which do not cause occlusion-related diseases on a long-term basis is required. The goals of occlusion that we should aim is not simple because TMD might occur if it is not achieved with the expense of the patients must live with the treatment result for the rest of their lives. Therefore, the goal to provide a good occlusion with better functions are essential in orthodontic treatment.
