현상학적 관점에서 본 퍼포먼스 미술활동에서 나타난 유아의 경험

Young Children Performance Art Experiences: A Phenomenological Perspective

본 연구의 목적은 퍼포먼스 미술활동에서 나타난 유아의 경험을 현상학적 관점에서 분석하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 경기도 A시 소재 P초등학교병설유치원에 재원 중인 만 4세 유아 9명을 대상으로 2022년 4월 4일부터 2022년 9월 21일까지 13회 퍼포먼스 미술활동을 실시하였으며, 참여관찰, 면담, 반성적 저널 등의 질적 자료를 수집한 후, van Manen(1994)의 주제적 분석방법을 활용하여 분석하였다. 그 결과, 퍼포먼스 미술활동을 통해 유아들은 ‘마음에서 솟구치는 다채로운 정서의 표출’, ‘설렘과 자유를 향유하는 즐거운 몸짓들’, ‘내면에 숨겨진 가능성의 발현’, ‘서로 소통하며 협력하는 관계 맺음’, ‘상상의 물꼬가 트임’을 경험하는 것으로 나타났다. 이로써 본 연구는 퍼포먼스 미술활동의 교육적 본질과 가치를 밝히고, 유아ㆍ놀이 중심 미술교육의 방안이 될 수 있음을 시사한다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

This study employed phenomenological research to analyze the performance art experiences of young children. The participants were nine four-year-old children enrolled in a kindergarten affiliated with P Elementary School in A-City, Gyeonggi-do. Observation data and qualitative data, such as children interviews and teacher’s reflective journals, were collected based on thirteen performance art activities, with the collected data analyzed using van Manen’s (1994) thematic analysis approach. It was found that young children experienced various emotions, excitement and freedom, the emergence of hidden potential, mutual communication and cooperation, and imaginative expression. This study enhances the understanding of the educational nature and value of performance art activities and suggests methods to ensure effective child-centered, play-based art education.
