A Study of Adverbial Dependent Noun in Modern Korean

이 연구는 현대국어 어찌말 매인이름씨의 형태·통사적 특징을 파악하는 데에 목적이 있다. 논의의 내용을 정리하면 다음과 같다. 먼저, 어찌말 매인이름씨의 목록을 설정하였다. 목록 설정은 필자의 이전 연구에서 설정한 중세국어, 근대국어의 목록과 연구자들에 의해 설정한 목록을 비교하여 설정하였다. 설정된 현대국어 어찌말 매인이름씨는 ‘겸, 김, 듯이(듯), 대로, 만2, 만큼, 바람, 족족, 채’이다. 둘째, 어찌말 매인이름씨의 형태·통사적 특징을 살펴보았다. 정리하면, 형태적 특징은 후행 요소와의 결합 유무를 살펴보았는데, 결합이 있는 매인이름씨는‘만2, 바람, 채’이고, 결합이 없는 매인이름씨는‘겸, 김, 듯이(듯), 대로, 만큼, 족족’이었다. 이러한 형태적 특징만으로는 각 매인이름씨의 제약 현상과 특징이 충분히 설명되지 못하였다. 그래서 통사적 특징도 살펴보았는데, 제약이 많은 매인이름씨는 겸, 김, 만2, 족족채’인데, ‘겸, 만2’는 선행요소로 ‘-(으)ㄹ’과 임자씨만 통합되었고,‘김, 채’는 ‘-(으)ㄴ, -는’만 통합되었으며,‘족족’은 ‘-는’과 임자씨만 통합하였다. 제약이 없는 매인이름씨는‘듯이(듯), 대로, 만큼, 바람’등이다. 이전 연구에서도 논의하였듯이, 선행 요소와의 제약이 적을수록 둘의 관계는 덜 긴밀하여, 문법화의 가능성이 낮아지기 때문에, 매인이름씨로서의 기능을 지속적으로 유지할 가능성이 높다.

This study aims to identify the morphological and syntactic characteristics of adverbial dependent nouns in modern Korean. To summarize the discussion, the following was done. First, a list of adverbial dependent nouns was established. The list was established by comparing the lists set in the author's previous studies of Middle Korean and Early Modern Korean with lists set by otherresearchers. The adverbial dependent nouns in modern Korean that were established are ‘gyeom, gim, deusi (deut), daero, man2, mankeum, baram, jogjog, chae’. Second, the morphological and syntactic characteristics of adverbial dependent nouns were examined. In terms of morphological characteristics, we examined the combination with the following element, and the dependent nouns that have a combination are ‘man2, baram, chae', and the dependent nouns that do not have a combination are ‘gyeom, gim, deusi (deut), daero, mankeum, seong, jogjog'. However, these morphological characteristics alone did not sufficiently explain the characteristics of each dependent noun. Therefore, we also looked at the syntactic characteristics, and the dependent nouns with many constraints are ‘gyeom, gim, man2, jogjog, chae’. ‘Gyeom’and ‘man2’ are integrated only with ‘-l’ and nouns as preceding elements, and 'gim' and 'chae' are integrated only with ‘-n’. ‘Jogjog’ is integrated only with '-n' and nouns. The dependent nouns without constraints are 'deusi (deut), daero, mankeum, baram'. The closer the relationship between the dependent noun and the preceding element, the less close their relationship, the more likely they are to continue to function as a dependent noun.
