Case Study of the Korean Lifelong Education and HRD Society

연구배경 : 한국평생교육⋅HRD학회 설립 준비위원으로 활동한 7인의 박사들이 학회 설립 과정에서 경험한 인식 변화와 구성원 관계, 나아가 평생교육과 관련한 영향력을 연구하고자 하였다. 연구목적 : 본 연구에서는 학회설립 활동 과정에서 어떻게 인식이 전환되는지 살펴보고, 역할의 정립을 탐구하려는 목적으로 수행되었다. 연구문제는 학회설립 참여동기, 참여 과정에서 전환된 인식, 역할수행 경험이 참여자 자신에게 미친 영향 등이다. 연구방법 : 연구참여자들의 참여 에세이, 심층 면담, 참여 관찰, 회의 진행 결과물과 개인 기록물 등의 자료를 수집하여 비교․분석한 질적 사례연구다. 연구결과 : ‘주변 돌기’, ‘마주 보기’, ‘멀리 보기’로 핵심 주제를 도출하였다. 연구 참여자들은 박사로서의 책무와 부담감을 가지고 있었으며, 참여 과정에서 인식 차이와 소통 부재, 부담감에 따른 딜레마적 경험을 하였다. 그러나 공동의 목표를 달성하며 인식 변화가 일어났고, 능동적 활동가로 변화하여 참여 경험을 연구 주제로 발전시켰다. 시사점 : 학회설립 참여 경험을 통해 박사들의 인식이 바뀌었고, 일상에서 평생학습과 연구 실천이 병행될 수 있다는 가능성을 발견하였다는 점이다.

Background : This study aimed to examine the changes in perception, member relationships, and the broader impact on lifelong education based on the experiences of seven doctoral researchers who were involved in the preparation committee for the establishment of the Korean Lifelong Education and HRD Society. Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate how perceptions shift during the process of establishing the society and to explore the establishment of roles within the society. The research problem involves the motivation for participating in establishment of an academic society, the changed perceptions during the participation process, and the impact of role performance experiences on the participants themselves. Methodology : A qualitative case study was conducted by collecting and comparing data such as participants' essays, in-depth interviews, participant observations, meeting outcomes, and personal records. Findings : Three key themes, namely "Looking at the Surroundings," "Facing Each Other," and "Looking into the Distance," were derived. The research participants experienced a sense of duty and burden as doctoral researchers and encountered differences in perception, communication gaps, and dilemmas caused by these burdens throughout the participation process. However, through achieving a common goal, their perceptions underwent transformation, leading to a shift toward becoming proactive participants, ultimately advancing their research experience as the main topic of investigation. Implications : The findings of this study reveal that the participation experience in establishing the society brought about a change in the doctoral researchers' perceptions and discovered the possibility of simultaneous engagement in lifelong learning and research practice in their everyday lives.
