조선소 하청업체 여성노동자의 화장실 사용 경험에 관한 사례연구

Challenges Faced by Female Shipyard Subcontractors: A Case Study on Restroom Usage

본 연구는 조선소 하청업체에 소속되어 있는 여성 노동자의 화장실 사용 경험을 질적 사례연구를 통해 탐색하였다. 본 연구결과, 연구참여자들은 노동현장에서 상대적으로 소수 성별 집단에 소속되어 화장실 사용 문제를 경험하고 있었다. 분석결과 조선소의 여자화장실은 남성노동자에 비해 상대적으로 열악한 '여성노동자의 지위'가 반영되어 있고, 또 '고용지위'로서 직영과 하청업체 간에 공간의 차이도 보였다. 나아가 연구참여자들은 야외에 설치된 간이화장실 마저도 사용하기 어려운 '현장 노동환경' 속에 있었고, 또 환경적으로 열악한 간이화장실에 '아플 때 까지 참으며 겨우 적응'하고 있었다. 본 연구는 조선소 하청업체 여성노동자의 노동현장 내 화장실 환경을 개선하고, 화장실을 사용할 때 안전이 보장될 수 있는 방안을 함의로 제시하였다.

This qualitative case study investigates the restroom usage experiences of female workers employed as shipyard subcontractors. As a minority gender in the workplace, the female study participants encountered various issues while using the restroom facilities. The study found that the condition of women’s restrooms in shipyards was notably inferior to those designated for male workers, reflecting the status disparities. There were also differences between the workspaces of directly employed female workers and those employed by subcontractors. Moreover, participants working in an on-site environment also noted challenges in using portable restrooms installed outdoors. They endured and reluctantly adapted to these inadequate facilities until they became ill. The study offers suggestions for improving restroom facilities for female shipyard subcontractors, emphasizing the importance of their safety and well-being.
