The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the creative abilities in design. Four major creative abilities were reviewed: fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. We hypothesized that idea generation is influenced by brain dominantce, and that this has a close relationship with the types of creative abilities. Firstly, we have studied on the cognitive thinking model. The Whole Brain Model is involved in high-level cognitive functioning, which have four major modes of human brain-quadrants: A, B, C, and D-Mode. Hermann's research has shown that the four quadrants of the human brain use contrasting methods of information processing. The Brain Dominance Profile (BDP) tends to have a preference for specific processing modes during idea generation. Then, we reviewed major tools of Tests of Creative Thinking (TCT) for the development for the Test of Creative Abilities of Design Thinking (TCADT). Especially, we surveyed the Creative Abilities and Brain Dominances. In order to do that, we need to coin a tool for the Test of Creative Abilities. Finally, we have compared the Brain Dominance and Creative Abilities. It was found that there is a close relationship between a specific Brain Dominance (D-Mode) and a Creative Ability (Originality).
