The purpose of this paper is to provide theoretical explanations of creative ideas based on Piaget's and Vygotsky's perspectives on creativity. Piaget's constructivism offers useful explanations for creativity through cognitive development and learning. In a symposium, Piaget (1981) suggested reflective abstraction as the mechanism for creativity. Vygotsky explained how creativity develops and how imagination and creativity are interrelated. Vygotsky's theory of creativity is based on two cognitive functions: imagination and abstract thinking. Imagination is the origin of creative activity. To transform this creative imagination into a product, abstract thinking is necessary. They suggest that creative products may result from problem finding and emphasize the role of collaboration in creativity.
