Emotion Perception for Faces and Music: Is There a Link?

One hundred Chinese second graders were tested on perceptions of both emotions in music and facial expressions. Face emotion perception ability was significantly and positively associated with music emotion perception ability (r=.41). In addition, children who had received music training previously scored significantly higher on emotion perception for both facial expressions and music. Results suggest an in- triguing link between music training and emotion perception across modalities.
