개화기 유길준의 교육개혁이론 고

The study to Yu Kil-jun`s educational reform theory in the civilized age

The purpose of this research shall be considered the object, contents, method of education on investigating the general distinction of Yu Kil-jun's theory about reform of education. He used the bibliography, centering around 「Sougyonmun's 」( An Essay on Western Countries) research in the curriculum The results of this research are as follows: First. in the object of education, Yu Kil-jun took aim at accomplishment of the enlightened independent nation by improving the standard of national life, laying the foundation for wealth and military power of the nation and achieving social reform. 2) Second the contents of education, he explained in detail from two sides, 'education pursuing all-purposes and learning' . 'All-Purposes education' means trying to transmit needed information and encourage attainments in daily life. This includes the curricula of primary school, middle school, and high school. The main subjects are writing, painting, counting, producing, philosophy, economics, somatology, geography, politics, customs, etc. 'Education pursuing learning' is split into two parts : transmission of the research contents and adding new research to existent knowledge. The former means the curricula of the primary school, the latter means that of the university. Third, concerning educational method, he classified two categories, infantile education and juvenile. Infantile education applying to preschool children, was achieved on the basis of a pupil' s mental age. Concrete elements include feeding, sleeping, clothes, urination and defecation and so on. Juvenile education uses a method of education which is suitable to the developmental stage of psychology by grading fine, medium and poor schools, based on an intellectual standard and children ' s schooling Yu Kil-jun 'enlightening of society' by means of education. Because it is supposed that only institutional reform within the previous political power can't carry out such tasks as individual's internal value establishment, improvement of morality in society, and social evolution of a nation. This is to emphasize the his theory concerning the reform of a education, which appeals lo the justness and the purpose of social reform, as the best way for political and social problems.
