The purpose of this study is to examine the leadership characteristics of women principals in public elementary schools. Based on the literature review survey questionnaires were sent to the teachers and principals at 10 public elementary schools in Busan and gathered from 259 teachers and 10 women principals. The questionnaire developed by Ro, Jong Hee was revised for the study. In addition, interviews with teachers & women principals of 10 schools were carried out to analyze the background factor influencing the women leadership, and the perceptual differences between teachers and women principals about the leadership. The research questions are the followings. 1. In what way do teachers recognize about women principal leadership? Are there perceptual differences about women principal leadership according to teachers' background factors(gender, status, career)? 2. In what way do the women principals perceive their leadership? 3. What are the background factors that have influenced the women principal leadership? 4. Are there some perceptual differences between women principals and teachers about women principal leadership? The research findings are the followings. First, the teachers perceive the women principal leadership higher than average on 5 sub-factors of leadership. Teachers perceive the women principal leadership differently according to their status and career than gender. Second, interview results show that women principal leadership has been to some extent influenced by various factors such as the goal of education, sincerity & effort, human relationship, school environments etc. Third, the perceptual differences between teachers and women principals about the leadership do not have substantial effect on school administration. However, it needs further studies to examine more accurately the perceptual differences between women principals and teachers about the leadership.
