기후과학 소양의 관점에서 본 우리나라와 미국의 과학과 교육과정 비교 분석

Comparative Analysis of the Science Curriculums in Korea and the United States from the Perspective of Climate Science Literacy

이 연구의 목적은 기후과학 소양의 관점에서 우리나라의 2022 개정 과학과 교육과정과 미국의 차세대과학표준(NGSS)에 나타난 기후변화 교육 내용을 비교⋅분석하는 것으로, 이를 통해 우리나라 기후변화 교육의 방향 설정에 관한 시사점을 얻고자 하였다. 이를 위해 미국 기후변화 연구프로그램(US GCRP)에서 발표한 ‘기후과학 소양의 본질적 원리’를 기준으로 설정한 후, 2022 개정 과학과 교육과정의 성취기준과 NGSS의 교과 핵심 아이디어 및 수행 기대에 제시된 내용에 기초하여 기후과학의 원리가 반영된 정도 및 학년군별 연계 정도를 비교⋅분석하였다. 연구 결과, 2022 개정 과학과 교육과정은 NGSS와 비교하여 기후과학의 원리와 기초 개념이 교육과정에 고르게 반영되어 있지 않았고, 기후과학의 원리와 기초 개념이 학생들의 발달 수준에 맞추어 의미 있게 구분되거나 학교급별로 연계되지 않아 기후변화 교육의 계열성, 계속성, 연계성 측면이 부족한 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 이 연구에서는 학생들의 기후과학 소양 함양에 필요한 기후변화 교육의 방향을 교육과정의 측면에서 논의하였다.

This study aims to compare and analyze the contents related to climate change education in Korea’s 2022 revised science curriculum and the United States’ Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) from the perspective of climate science literacy. Therefore, based on the “The Essential Principles of Climate Science Literacy” published by the United States Global Change Research Program, the degree of reflection of climate science principles and connectivity by grade groups were compared and analyzed based on the achievement standards of the 2022 revised science curriculum and the NGSS’s disciplinary core ideas and performance expectations. The results showed that the 2022 revised science curriculum did not evenly reflect the principles and fundamental concepts of climate science compared to the NGSS. In addition, the principles and fundamental concepts of climate science are not meaningfully categorized according to the students’ developmental stages or connected between different school levels, resulting in the lack of sequence, continuity, and connectivity of climate change education. Based on these results, this study discussed the future directions of climate change education necessary to cultivate climate science literacy in students in terms of the curriculum.
