유아 민주시민교육의 실천을 위한 실행연구

Action research of democratic citizenship education for children

초록

본 연구는 민주시민교육의 실천과정에서 나타난 만 5세 유아의 변화를 살펴보고자 한다. 연구 참여자는 대전광역시 S유치원 행복 2반 유아 20명(남 9명, 여 11명)이며, 2021년 5 월 17일부터 10월 29일까지 약 5개월에 걸쳐 연구가 진행되었다. 연구절차는 Kemmis와 McTaggart (1988)의 실행연구 모형을 기초로 ‘계획-실행-관찰-반성’의 나선형 순환 과정 으로 구성되었고 관찰, 놀이기록, 연구자 저널 등의 방법을 통해 연구 자료를 수집하였다. 수집된 원자료를 반복적으로 읽으며 실행연구 과정에서 나타난 유아의 반응이나 행동의 변 화와 관련된 의미 있는 내용을 모아 범주화하며 연구 결과를 도출하였다. 이에 따른 연구 결과 1차 실행에서는 ‘학급 공동체 관심사에 적극적으로 참여하고 실천하기’,‘대화와 토의 로 문제 해결하기’를 실시하였고, 2차 실행에서는 ‘타인을 존중하고 다원성을 인정하기’,‘모 든 사람을 위해 협력하고 연대하기’를 실시하였다. 이러한 실행연구의 과정을 통해 나타난 유아의 변화는 ‘민주적 가치 내면화하기’, ‘다양한 자원을 활용한 문제 해결하기’, ‘세계시 민으로 행동하기’이다. 본 연구는 실행연구를 통해 유아의 일상생활을 바탕으로 민주시민 교육을 실천하였고, 유아에게 필요한 시민의식과 역량이 무엇인지 고민하고 실천해볼 수 있는 기회를 마련하는 데 의의가 있다.

The purpose of this study is to examine the changes in 5-year-old children in the implementation process as an democratic citizenship education. The participants were 20 children from the Happiness 2 class of S kindergarten located in Daejeon and the period was conducted for about five months. The research procedure consisted of a 4-step cycle of 'planning-action-observation-reflection' based on action research model of Kemmis and Mctaggart's(1988). And research data were collected through observation, children play journal, and researcher journal. By repeatedly reading the collected raw data, meaningful contents related to the children’s reaction or behavior were collected and categorized, and the research results were derived. As a result of this study, in the first implementation, ‘actively participating in and practicing the interests of the class community’, ‘solving problems through dialogue and discussion’ were conducted. In the second implementation, ‘respecting others and recognizing diversity’, ‘cooperation and solidarity for all people’ were conducted. Through this implementation process, children’s changes were found to be ‘internalizing democratic values’, ‘solving problems using multiple methods’ and ‘acting as a global citizen’. This study is significant that it provided to think about and practice what civic consciousness and competencies are necessary for children.
