본 연구에서는 신노년 세대의 자기계발과 주관적 행복감의 관계에서 생성감의 매개효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 연구대상은 1955년부터 1964년 사이에 태어난 베이비부머 세대로, 만 59~67세의 남녀 276명이 연구에 참여하였다. 연구대상자들은 자기계발, 생성감, 주관적 행복을 측정하는 설문지를 작성하였고, 수집된 설문자료는 SPSS Process Macro model 4를 활용하여 분석되었다. 연구결과, 신노년의 자기계발은 주관적 행복감과 생성감에 정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 즉, 자기계발 활동을 많이 할수록 주관적 행복감이 증가하였으며, 생성감도 증가되는 것으로 확인되었다. 또한 자기계발과 주관적 행복감의 관계에서 생성감의 매개효과를 검증한 결과 생성감의 부분 매개효과가 유의하였다. 즉, 자기계발 활동은 직접적으로 주관적 행복감을 증가시키기도 하지만, 부분적으로 생성감의 증가를 통해 주관적 행복감을 상승시켰다. 이는 침체감에 빠져 있는 노인의 주관적 행복감을 증가시키기 위해 자기계발 활동에 참여할 수 있도록 격려하고, 이를 통해 생성감을 증가시킴으로써 주관적 행복을 상승시킬 수 있음을 시사한다. 이러한 내용을 바탕으로 본 연구결과의 의의 및 제한점과 후속 연구를 위한 제언을 논의하였다.
The ‘new older generation’ refers to the baby boomer generation born between 1955, after the Korean War, and 1964 when birth control policies were implemented. The new older generation is considered to be active, independent, highly educated, and economically wealthy. Therefore, it is necessary to reconsider the meaning of happiness among those in this generation. This study investigated the mediating effect of generativity in the relationship between self-development and subjective happiness in the new older generation. A total of 276 males and females between the ages of 59 and 67 participated in this study. The results were as follows: First, self-development had a positive effect on subjective happiness and generativity, suggesting that self-development increased these factors. In addition, the mediating effect of generativity was significant in the relationship between self-development and subjective happiness. Self-development directly increased subjective happiness and indirectly increased subjective happiness via increased generativity. These results suggest that it is vital to encourage those in the new older generation to participate in self-development activities to increase generativity and subjective happiness, thereby promoting their continued growth.
