The Effects of the ARC Model-Based Play-Group Counseling Program on Emotional Recognition, Expression and Self-Esteem Improvement of children in Group Homes Who Have Been Abused

The aim of this study is to verify the effectiveness of the ARC Model-based play-group counseling program for improving emotional recognition, expression, and self-esteem in children from group homes who have experienced complex trauma as a result of child abuse. This program is a cognitive-behavioral play-group counseling based on the ARC model of attachment, self-regulation, and competence. It consists of a total of 12 sessions, each lasting 60 minutes, conducted once a week. The effects of the program were verified using a single-group pre-post test design. The subjects of the study were 7 school-aged children living in a group home. Variables were measured using self-report scales, and pre- and post-scores were compared using Wilcoxon’s signed-ranks test. As a result, the emotional recognition, expression, and self-esteem of children from group homes in the program significantly improved. This indicates that the ARC model-based play-group counseling program is an effective intervention for improving emotional recognition, expression, and self-esteem in children from group homes who have experienced complex trauma.
