발달장애인의 자기결정 증진이 주관적 삶의 질에 미치는 영향 : 긍정적·부정적 자아존중감의 매개효과를 중심으로

The Effect of Improvement of Self-determination on Subjective Quality of Life among Individuals with Developmental Disabilities : Focused on the Mediating Effect of Positive and Negative Self-esteem

본 연구의 목적은 발달장애인의 자기결정 증진이 긍정적‧부정적 자아존중감을 매개로 주관적 삶의 질에 미치는 영향을 검증하는 것이다. 장애인삶 패널조사 2차연도(2019년) 조사에 응답한 발달장애인 518명을 대상으로 구조방정식 분석을 통해 연구가설을 검증하였다. 주요 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 발달장애인의 자기결정 증진과 연관된 변수는 모두 주관적 삶의 질을 향상하는 데에 통계적으로 유의미한 효과를 지니고 있었다. 둘째, 발달장애인이 스스로 판단하고 결정할 수 있는 역량이 높아질수록 긍정적 자아존중감 척도가 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 의사결정 주체를 ‘나 자신’이라고 선택했는지 여부는 긍정적 및 부정적 자아존중감에 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 주지 않았다. 마지막으로 발달장애인의 자기결정 증진이 주관적 삶의 질에 미치는 영향에 대한 경로 중에서 ‘판단‧결정 역량→긍정적 자아존중감→주관적 삶의 질’을 잇는 경로만 통계적으로 유의한 간접효과를 지닌 것으로 확인되었다. 본 연구 결과를 바탕으로 발달장애인의 자기결정 증진이 주관적 삶의 질에 미치는 영향에 대한 기제를 파악할 수 있었으며, 이를 통해 발달장애인의 자기결정을 고양하는 제도와 프로그램에 대한 실천적 대안을 제안했다.

This study aims to examine the effect of improving self-determination of individuals with developmental disabilities(IDDs) on their subjective quality of life and the mediating effect of self-esteem. The research hypothesis was tested through SEM(Structural Equational Modeling) using data from 518 IDDs who participated in the second year(2019) of ‘Life of People with Disabilities Panel Survey(LPDPS).’ Key findings are as follows. First, self-determination variables had a statistically significant effect on subjective quality of life. Second, the capability of judging and determining of IDDs was significantly positively associated with positive self-esteem. On the other hand, whether IDDs acted as decision makers was not significantly associated with either positive or negative self-esteem. Finally, among the pathways examined, only the pathway linking “judgment and decision capacity → positive self-esteem → subjective quality of life” was found to have a statistically significant indirect effect. Based on these results, we identified the mechanisms of the effects of self-determination on subjective quality of life, and discussed practical implications for systems and programs aimed at enhancing self-determination of IDDs.
