Using AAC in Special Education

AAC의 사용 대상과 활용 영역이 다양해짐에 따라서, 특수교사에게 AAC의 활용은 학생의 언어지도 뿐 만 아니라 교과교육 및 생활지도에서도 필수적이라고 할 수 있다. 그러나 아직까지는 많은 특수교사들이 AAC의 필요성에 대해 충분히 인식하지 못하거나 적절하게 사용하는 것에 어려움을 가지는 경우가 많다. 이 글에서는 특수교육 현장에서 AAC를 필요로 하는 학생들과 이들의 요구, 그리고 특수교사로서 AAC를 적용하기 위한 실제적인 방법에 대해서 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 통해 특수교육 현장에서 보다 활발하고 효과적인 AAC 사용에 대해 제안하고자 한다.

For diverse students having communication needs, the use of AAC can have important benefits. Using AAC can support participation for those students in a wide range of academic and social activities. Therefore clear understanding of AAC systems, techniques and strategies is essential for special education teachers. This article provides a summary of basic information on the AAC for students with disabilities in special education: candidates for AAC (who require or are likely require AAC) and practically using AAC in special education classrooms (how to implement AAC for students with disabilities). It also suggests the practical use of AAC strategies within the school and community context.
