Survey on SLPs’ Perspectives on the Design of AAC Displays

배경 및 목적: 본 연구는 AAC 화면 구성을 어떻게 할 것인지에 대한 언어재활사들의 인식을 알아보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 방법: 국내외 AAC 관련 연구 및 임상 경험을 기반으로 개발한 설문 문항을 활용하여 연구를 진행하였다. 총 168개의 응답을 대상으로 각 영역별로 빈도와 백분율을 분석하였다. 결과: 첫째, 대부분의 응답자가 그림 상징을 임상에서 활용하고 있었으며, 그림 상징의 의미 이해를 높이기 위해서는 상징의 디테일이 중요하다고 응답한 참여자가 많았다. 둘째, 참여자들은 AAC 화면 구성 중, 격자배열 화면의 테두리색, 배경색 사용 들에 대해서 전반적으로 긍정적인 응답을 하였지만, 실제적으로 AAC 평가 및 중재에서 테두리색이나 배경색을 다양하게 활용하는 경우는 많지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, AAC 평가 및 중재에서 시각장면디스플레이(VSD)를 활용하는 것에 대한 설문 문항에 대해서는 대부분의 참여자가 VSD의 개념에 대해서는 들어 본 적은 없고, 실제 임상에서도 활용하는 경우가 드문 것으로 나타났다. 논의 및 결론: 본 설문에 참여한 언어재활사들은 AAC 화면 구성에 있어서의 중요한 요소인, 그림 상징, 상징의 테두리색 및 배경색, VSD 활용 등에 대해서 다양한 의견 및 활용 정도를 보고하였다. 앞으로 언어재활사들이 다양한 AAC 화면 구성 전략에 대해서 인지하고, 적용할 수 있도록 더 많은 교육과 프로그램 개발이 이루어져야 할 것으로 사료된다.

Background and Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate speech-language pathologist (SLP)s’ perspectives on the design of AAC displays. Method: Survey questions were developed based on national and international research and clinical experiences. A total of 168 responses were analyzed by calculating the frequency and percentage for each question. Results: Most participants answered that they often used graphic symbols for AAC evaluations and interventions. Many of them also reported that details of graphic symbols were important because they enhanced understanding of the symbols' meaning. Most participants provided positive responses to the questions about border and background colors for grid displays. However, for unstated reasons, they rarely used them for clinical purposes. Most also answered that they had very limited knowledge about visual- scene displays (VSDs) and rarely used them for clinical purposes. They reported that future education and availability of the VSD programs would help them to use VSD for clinical purposes. Conclusion: The participating SLPs provided helpful information about the design of AAC displays. They should be supported with education about VSDs, and related materials about the design of AAC displays should be made available to them.
