보완대체의사소통(AAC)에 대한 장애인활동지원사의 인식 조사

A Survey on the Perception of Augmentative and Alternative Communication of Personal Assistants Who Support People with a Disability

배경 및 목적: 장애인 주변인의 보완대체의사소통(AAC)에 대한 인식은 성공적인 AAC 중재를 위해 중요한 요소로 작용한다. 본 연구는 장애인의 자립생활을 지원하기 위해 일상의 많은 시간을 상호작용하며 보내는 장애인활동지원사를 대상으로 AAC에 대한 지식, 경험 그리고 인식 수준을 살펴보고자 하였다. 방법: 국내외 선행연구를 토대로 AAC 지식, 경험, 인식에 대한 문항으로 구성된 설문지를 개발한 후, 활동지원사 총 105명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. AAC 인식에 대한 문항은 리커트 5점 척도를 사용하여 응답하도록 하였다. 결과: 응답자의 반 이상이 AAC에 대해 모르는 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 알고 있다고 응답한 활동지원사들은 대부분 의사소통판이나 의사소통책과 같은 로우테크 형태를 알고 있거나 사용해 본 경험이 있는 것으로 나타났다. AAC 인식조사 결과 장애인이 최소한의 인지발달을 마친 상태여야 AAC 도구를 사용할 수 있다고 보는 시각이 강한 것으로 나타났다. 논의 및 결론: AAC 촉진자와 발견자로서 활동지원사의 역할이 강조되는 바, 이들의 AAC에 대한 지식과 경험을 증진할 수 있는 교육 기회의 마련이 필요할 것으로 보인다.

Background and Objective: The perception of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) of people around the individual with disability is as an important factor in AAC intervention. The purpose of this study was to examine the current knowledge, experience, and perception of AAC of personal assistants who interact with people with disabilities to support their independent living. Method: A survey comprised of items about AAC knowledge, experience, and perception was developed by reviewing previous studies. A total of 105 personal assistants completed the survey. Regarding AAC perception, the responses were made based on 5-point scale to examine the relationship with the characteristics of the communication difficulties. Results: More than half of the personal assistants were unaware of AAC. Personal assistants who responded that they knew about AAC have limited knowledge and experience about low-tech AAC systems such as the communication book and communication board. Regarding AAC perception, personal assistants responded that adequate cognitive skills are required for people with disabilities to use AAC. Conclusion: Given that the role of personal assistants as an AAC facilitators and AAC finders are important, it is necessary to provide educational opportunities that can enhance their knowledge and experience on AAC.
