중도입국 다문화 대안학교 졸업생의 삶의 전환에 대한 생애사 연구

A Study on the Life History of Immigrant Graduates of Multicultural Alternative School

중도입국 다문화 자녀의 한국 생활 적응은 언어를 비롯한 문화 등에서 여러 장벽을 만난다. 특히 이들이 성년이 되어 한국 사회에 진출한 이후에도 부딪히는 현실적인 문제들은 그리 쉽게 해결할 수 있는 것들이 아니다. 본 연구는 중국에서 부모와 이별을 경험한 중도입국 자녀가 한국에 입국하여 중ㆍ고등학교를 다닌 후 사회생활에 진입해 온 과정을 인터뷰한 생애사적 단일사례 연구이다. 이에 한국 사회 적응 과정 속에서 겪은 어려움과 극복과정을 문화충격(culture shock)이론과 문화접변(acculturation) 모형을 적용하여 접근을 시도하였다. 시간적으로 입국 전의 삶과 입국 이후를 나누었고, 중학교 및 직업교육 대안학교에 해당하는 고등학교 시기의 적응 과정을 분석하고 자신의 진로를 위한 노력들을 추적하였다. 그런 후 직장생활에서의 적응과 실업을 경험하는 과정에서 겪은 어려움 및 극복 과정을 분석한 후 미래를 준비하는 의지 등도 함께 연구했다. 이를 통해 중도입국 다문화 자녀의 경우, 문화적응 과정을 고려한 교육이 필요하며 관련 사례연구가 많아지고 범주화 된다면 다문화교육의 한 분야로 자리매김할 수 있을 것이라 본다. 또한 배움이나 취업 의지도 없는 NEET 상태의 다문화 자녀들에게는 이러한 사례들이 전파됨으로써 자신의 꿈을 준비하게 되는 동기 부여의 계기가 되기를 희망한다.

Various barriers in language and culture are met for immigrant adolescents who try to adapt to life in Korea. It is not easy to solve the realistic problems they encounter when they face Korean society after becoming adults. This study is a single life-history study on an immigrant adolescent who experienced separation from his parents in China and entered Korea. Immigrant adolescents graduated middle and high schools, and entered social life in Korea. Culture shock(Oberg, 1960), acculturation(Banks, 2016) are applied to understand in-depth the process of overcoming the difficulties and the process of adapting to Korean society. This study divides his life into two categories: before and after entering the country. It analyzes the adaptation process period in Korea which includes middle school and vocational education alternative school. The study also tries to trace the efforts he put into his career after school. By analyzing the difficulties in adapting to his career and his experience of unemployment, the study also focuses on his willingness to prepare for the future. The study concludes, for immigrant adolescents, that they need a separate vocational curriculum which considers the cultural adaptation process. Also, if related case studies are increased and categorized, it can become another part of vocational education curriculum. In addition, these case studies can be applied to adolescents with NEET status who do not have the will to learn or to get a job, giving them motivation to prepare for their dreams.
