다문화간호 교육이 간호사의 문화적 역량 증진에 미치는 효과

Effect of Cultural Competence Education for Nurse

본 연구는 야간특별편입과정에 재학 중인 간호사들의 문화적 역량을 강화하기 위한 교육프로그램을 개발하여 그 효과를 확인하기 위한 목적으로 실시되었다. 개발된 교육프로그램은 15주간 37명의 간호사들에게 적용되었다. 다문화간호 교육프로그램은 구조주의 학습이론, 문화적 역량 및 전환교육 이론을 토대로 개발하여 적용하였으며 교육대상자의 문화적 인식, 지식, 행동을 중심으로 한 문화적 역량을 측정하기 위한 설문조사를 사전과 사후에 실시하였다. 교육의 효과를 분석한 결과 다문화간호 교육에 참여한 간호사들은 문화적 수용성, 문화적 지식, 문화적 행위를 포함한 전반적 문화적 역량 점수가 유의하게 높아진 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 다문화 간호 교육이 간호사의 문화적 역량 증진에 긍정적인 변화를 가져올 수 있음을 의미하고, 간호사와 간호학생을 포함한 보건 의료 인력에게 문화적 역량 강화 교육이 효과적임을 나타낸다.

The purpose of this study were to develop a course to improve cultural competence of nurses in RN-BSN program and to evaluate the effect of the course. The developed course was consisted of 15 modules and 37 nurses participated in the study. The cultural competence course was developed based on constructivist theory, cultural competency, and transformative education. Before and after education, participants responded a questionnaire developed to measure cultural competence: cultural awareness, knowledge, and behavior. The collected data were analyzed by percentage, mean, standard deviation, and paired t-test. After education, participants had significantly higher total cultural competence score (t=-5.79, p=.004) including cultural acceptance(t=-5.98, p=.007), cultural knowledge (t=-5.54, p=.001), and cultural behavior (t=-5.85, p=.005). The study results suggested that cultural competence education can change nurses' cultural competence toward positive ways. Findings from this study support the need for cultural competency education for nurses and nursing students.
