초등학생의 다문화 이해와 다문화 태도의 관계에서 자아존중감의 매개효과

The Mediated Effect of Self-esteem in the Relationship between Multicultural Understanding and Attitude of Elementary-school Students

본 연구는 초등학생의 다문화 이해와 다문화 태도의 관계에서 학교생활적응에서 영향을 미치는 자아존중감이 매개효과를 보이는지 살펴보았다. 연구대상자는 전라북도에 소재하는 초등학교 5학년과 6학년 424명을 대상으로 설문조사를 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 21.0 프로그램과 AMOS 21.0 프로그램을 이용하여 구조방정식 분석을 실시하였다. 자아존중감의 매개효과를 검증한 결과 다문화 이해가 다문화 태도에 미치는 영향은 상당부분 자아존중감에 의해 매개되고 있음을 확인하였다. 이러한 결과는 다문화사회에서 다양한 문화를 이해하고 다른 문화를 수용하려는 태도를 함양하기 위한 방안으로 자아존중감을 증진시킬 수 있는 실천적인 프로그램을 개발하여 제공될 필요가 있다.

This study examined whether the mediated effect is shown in self-esteem, which influences adjustment to school life in the relationship between multicultural understanding and attitude of elementary-school students. Data was collected by conducting a survey of 424 students in grades 5 and 6 in an elementary school located in Jeollabuk-do. The structural equation analysis was conducted using the SPSS 21.0 program and AMOS 21.0 program software packages. The result of verifying the mediated effect of self-esteem confirmed that the influence of multicultural understanding on multicultural attitude is considerably mediated by self-esteem. This result raises the need to develop and provide practical programs that can enhance self-esteem in order to cultivate the attitude to understand and accept various different cultures in a multicultural society.
