미디어의 다문화 재현에 대한 비판적 담론 분석: 휴먼 다큐멘터리 EBS <다문화 고부 열전>을 중심으로

Critical dicourse analysis on the media's representation of multiculturalism

이 연구는 다문화 가정을 소재로 한 텔레비전 휴먼 다큐멘터리를 통해, 다문화 가정에 대한 어떠한 담론이 구성되고 있는지를 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 EBS의 <다문화고부 열전>을 대상으로 이야기의 서사 구조와 전략을 분석하였다. 인물의 제시 방식과 부재, 이야기의 시간과 공간, 그리고 담화의 서술 행위 등을 종합적으로 살펴봄으로써 다문화 주체들을 표상하는 방식과 미디어가 제시하는 다문화 가치를 파악하였다. 각 에피소드는 시어머니와 며느리 두 여성에게 초점이 맞추어져 있고, 다른 등장인물들은 평면적으로 그려져 있거나 부재하고 있었다. 이는 가족이라는 울타리를 지켜야 할 책임이 여성에게 있음을 내포한다. 담화의 서술행위에서는 며느리를 ‘외부자’, ‘떠나온 자’, ‘정착한 자’로, 시어머니를 ‘지지자’, ‘반대자’, ‘동행자’로 담론을 형성하고 있었다. 여기에는 한국사회가 이주민 혹은 여성을 바라보는 편향이 매개 되어 있다. 또한, 내레이터를 통해 이 담론을 강화하는 경향이 있었다.

This study explores the way in which multicultural programs in human documentary as TV program. This study employs the narrative analysis, especially focusing on characters and story-time, story-space, narrative themes, and discourse in < Between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law of multicultural > in EBS in order to investigate the multicultural values the program broadcast. According to the findings, < Between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law of multicultural > in EBS tends to use three discourse layers on main characters. In summary, daughter-in-law is introduced offstage at the beginning as ‘outsider’ ‘leaver’, and as the story continues she was labeled as ‘arriver’, This analogy in this case can be made to the discourse of mother-in-law as ‘supporter’ ‘objector’, ‘companion’. This implies that Korean cultural norms and conventions sets limits on the representation of multiculturalism.
