외국인 유아의 어린이집 적응을 위한 보육교사의 지원경험과 요구

Teachers’ Experiences and Needs for Supporting International Kids’ Adaptation to the Childcare Center

본 연구는 외국인 유아의 어린이집 적응과정의 실제를 살펴보고 외국인 유아의 어린이집 적응을 지원하기 위한 방향을 모색하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 서울시에 위치한 대학부설 직장어린이집인 S어린이집의 유아반 담임교사로 외국인 유아 보육경험이 있는 교사 7명을 대상으로 포토보이스방식을 활용하여 총 2회의 포커스 집단면담(FGI)을 실시하였다. 주요 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 보육교사는 외국인 유아의 어린이집 적응을 위한 지원과정에서 항상 지원이 필요한 요구가 있음을 인식하면서도 어려움과 부담을 느꼈고, 이에 이들을 위해 더 많은 관심과 시간을 써야한다고 회상하였다. 또한 보육교사는 외국인 유아, 부모와의 소통을 위해 반복적이고 지속적으로 노력하였으며, 교사의 일관성 있는지원으로 인해 유아는 점차 어린이집에 적응하는 모습을 보였다. 나아가 교사를 위한 향후 지원 방안으로 외국인 유아를 지도를 위한 부모, 교사용 지침서 개발의 필요성과 각 반에 언어, 관계와 놀이를 지원해줄 수 있는 보조인력의 충분한 지원과 교사의 능력 신장을 위한 지원을 희망하였다. 본 연구는 외국인유아의 어린이집 적응과정을 지원하는 유아 교사의 경험을 토대로 소극적, 시혜적 관점에서 외국인 유아의 어린이집 적응을 접근했던 한계를 벗어나, 유아의 주도성과 부모, 보조인력 등 다양한 협력의 가능성을 살펴볼 수 있었다. 이는 외국인 유아를 보육하는 교사의 요구를 반영한 구체적 지원방안을 모색하는자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

The study aims to examine the foreign children's adaptation process to childcare centers and to find a direction to support them. Focus group interviews (FGI) were con-ducted twice using the photo-voice method for seven teachers having experienced in car-ing of foreign children as homeroom teachers at S Childcare Center, a university-affiliated center located in Seoul. The results of the study are as follows. The childcare teachers re-called that they felt difficulties and burdens while recognizing that there was always a need for support in the process of supporting foreign children to adapt to the childcare center, and that they had to spend more attention and time for them. Moreover, the teach-ers repeatedly and continuously provided efforts to communicate with foreign children and their parents, and the children gradually adapted to the childcare center. Furthermore, for future support methods for teachers, the necessity of developing guidelines for pa-rents and teachers for guiding foreign children and expectations for having sufficient sup-port for auxiliary personnel regarding language and play in each class, and support for im-proving teachers' abilities are needed. This study can be used for establishing a system-atic and practical multicultural education program to realize a multicultural society that our society aims for.
