연구목적: 이 논문의 목적은 Ellen Key의 『어린이 세기』에 나타난 아동관을 고찰하고 그 교육적 시사점을 밝히는데 있다. 연구방법: 이러한 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해 먼저 Ellen Key의 생애와 사상적 배경을 살펴보고, 『어린이 세기』의 주요내용을 고찰한 후, 이를 바탕으로 Ellen Key의 아동관을 밝히며, 그 교육적 시사점을 도출하였다. 연구결과: 아동은 고유한 본성을 지닌 개별적인 존재로 고유한 의지를 가지고 사유하고 판다하며 지식을 만드는 존재이다. 아동은 자기보존본능을 가지고 평화로운 가운데 자기결정능력을 키우는 존재이며, 부모와 사회로부터 사랑받을 권리, 실수를 하거나 말썽을 피울 권리와 자신만의 감정을 가질 권리가 있는 존재이다. 아동은 상상력을 통한 예술 창조적 본능을 가진 존재이다. 논의 및 결론: 아동은 자신의 개성을 계발할 수 있는 교육과 가정에서의 개별적인 교육이 필요하며 권리를 가진 개인으로서 존엄과 가치를 인정받아야 하고 예술 창조적 삶을 살 수 있는 경험을 제공받아야 함을 시사한다.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine viewpoints on children in Ellen Key's 『The Century of Child』 and to reveal its educational implications. Method: According to the purpose of this study, we first looked at Ellen Key's life and ideological background and examined the main contents of 『The Century of Child』. Based on this, Ellen Key's viewpoints on children were derived, as well as its educational implications. Results: Children are individual beings with a unique nature, who think, sell, and create knowledge with their own will. Children are beings who have self-preservation instincts and develop self-determination abilities in peace. Children are beings who have the right to be loved by their parents and society, the right to make mistakes or get into trouble, and the right to have their own feelings. Children are beings with artistic and creative instincts through imagination. Conclusion: Children need education to develop their individuality and individual education at home. As individuals with rights, their dignity and value should be recognized and they should be provided with the experience of living an artistic and creative life. With regards to these findings, educational significance can be found.
