A Study on the Enneagram and the Development Levels of Consciousness

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the development levels of human`s consciousness. To achieve the goal, Following research questions were established: 1) To investigate Maslow`s theory of the hierarchy of needs in humanistic perspective. 2) To investigate the development levels of the Enneagram. In the Enneagram, this study has tried to investigate Gurdjieff`s and Riso`s levels of development. 3) to understand the integrated approach of the levels of development on the Enneagram and Maslow`s theory. Methods: This study is based on literature review. Results: The results of this research are follow. Firstly, it is possible for a person to grow higher consciousness and to elaborate the development levels with comprehending the developmental levels in the Enneagram and Maslow`s theory. Secondary, the Enneagram is to be used not only as a tool which classifies the types of personality in the horizontal view but also as an instruction in the vertical view through witch a person attains self-development and ultimately achieves one`s spiritual growth. Conclusion: In integrating the development levels of the Enneagram and Maslow`s theory, this study will be used as a guide with which counselors, therapists and individuals are interested in spiritual growth and investigate the human growth.
