Introduction: In the Early Buddhism sutra, `inside` and `outside` have been referred to as the important concept in `Satipatthana`. But there has been a variety of controversies in that the meaning and practice. This manuscript reviewed the meanings of the `inside` and `outside` discussed by diverse existing disputants. And this script looked into the relationship between the meanings and the attitude of practitioner and counselor. Body : The `inside` and `outside` appear diversely in Satipatthana. Many other standings such as Buddhism, counseling, and psychotherapy respectively interpret the meanings differently. The meaning of the `inside` and `outside` appears as a gradational and extensional structure in sutra. This is suggested the direct way of Nirvana. It is the same as the purpose of counseling. The Janavasabhasutta and Sampasadaniyasutta can prove that we get right `absorption` internally and `insight` externally. This is an attitude what counselor has to possess. Conclusion : This script dealed with how to use `Satipatthana` in counseling or psychotherapy. By observing the `inside` and `outside`, counselor can get right `absorption` and insight. As a result, the counselor can communicate with the client well. Counselors can apply the meditation to counseling and applicate it more positively.
