예비 초등교사의 영어 교수 불안감과 교사 변인 간의 관계 분석

Relationship Analysis of English Teaching Anxiety and Pre-Service Elementary School Teachers

본 연구의 목적은 예비 초등교사 101명을 대상으로 영어 교과를 가르칠 때 나타나는 교수 불안감과 교사 변인 간에 어떤 관련이 있는지 알아보는 것이다. 본 연구에서 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 4학년 예비교사들도 선행연구의 다른 예비교사들과 마찬가지로 예기치 않은 교수 상황에 대처하는 것에 대한 불안감이 가장 높았으며, 또한 자신들의 교수능력에 대한 불안감도 높아서 수업에서 불안감을 현실적으로 극복하는데 더 도움이 될 수 있는 실제적인 극복전략의 사용이 많았다. 둘째, 영어 구사 능력에 자신이 없는 예비교사들은 영어 능력에 스스로 불안감을 느끼게 되어 자연스럽게 영어 교수에 대한 자신감도 낮게 평가하는 경향이 있고, 결과적으로 영어 교수 과정에서 높은 교수 불안감을 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 예비교사로서 스스로 전반적인 교수 능력이 우수하다고 평가하는 집단은 영어 구사 능력도 우수하며 영어 교수 자신감도 높기 때문에 영어를 가르칠 때 느끼는 교수 불안감도 낮았다. 이들은 모든 교과에서 두루 적용 가능한 심리적 극복전략을 상대적으로 더 많이 사용하였다. 넷째, 실제 영어 교수 능력을 예측할 수 있는 유의미한 변수는 영어 교수 자신감이며 이에 영향을 미치는 중요한 예측 변수는 영어 능력 불안감과 전반적 교수 능력 자신감인 것으로 분석되었다.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between English teaching anxiety of 101 pre-service elementary school teachers and teacher variables. The findings were as follows: First, senior pre-service teachers and other prospective teachers have the highest level of anxiety about coping with unexpected teaching situations as well as about their teaching skills. They use coping strategies to overcome these anxieties. Second, those who are not confident in their English proficiency tend to feel insecure about their English teaching skills and naturally underestimate their abilities. This group of teacher variable also had high anxiety in teaching. Third, pre-service teachers who self-evaluated as having excellent overall teaching skills had low teaching anxiety because they had excellent English proficiency and high confidence in their English teaching skills. They used stress management strategies that are applicable for teaching in general. Fourth, a significant variable that can predict English teaching ability is English teaching confidence, and important predictors that affect this variable are English teaching anxiety and overall confidence in teaching.
