Body: In the background of the worldwide spread of Goenka`s meditation centers are teacher U Ba Khin`s great vow, diverse meditation courses offered for different stages, and many merits and characteristics of the meditation center operating system. Goenka emphasizes feeling meditation mainly because feeling is directly linked to the arising and cessation of sufferings, feeling observation is a significant cause (condition) for the attainment of Nirvana, and feeling observation itself is related to the four foundations of mindfulness, which are body, feeling, mind, and dhamma. The specific method of feeling meditation taught by Goenka is observing bodily feelings and sensations. Conclusion: Feeling meditation taught by Goenka has its ground in the early scriptures, and its importance is also found in the 12 Links of Dependent Origination. Goenka`s teaching, which has influenced not only Buddhism but also Western body and mind therapy, is currently providing the way of healing and wisdom to numerous people through some 280 centers throughout the world.
