Introduction: The fundamental problem which interrupts the unity of current Korean society is the zero-tolerance of the Other. The thinking pattern revolving around the subject(the self) contributes to the prejudice and zero-tolerance of the other. It is high time for us to have to have self-examination to heal the prejudice of the Other. Body: This essay explores the philosophical foundation of meditation counseling phenomenologically. The reason why the philosophical foundation of meditation counseling is examined phenomenologically is identified in the performative quality implied in phenomenological reduction. The approach of the phenomenological counseling is different from traditional counseling technique in that the phenomenological counseling respects clients` vivid experiences prior to being refracted by the prejudice of counselor. Academic possibility of Buddhistic counseling or Buddhistic meditation is presented in this essay especially by emphasizing Buddhistic features included in phenomenological reduction. Intersubjectivity implied in the phenomenological egology is emphasized to overcome the limit of the traditional counseling technique resulted from the subject (counselor) and the object (client) being divided hierarchically. Especially, the constitution of intersubjectivity is established through the consciousness-only doctrine. Conclusion: By doing that, the same point of view of phenomenology and Buddhism is identified, philosophical grounding of Buddhistic counseling being illuminated in this essay.
