The Effect of Feeling Meditation on Stress Reduction: A Case Study

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate how feeling meditation influences on people`s stress reduction. Methods: In-depth interview and counseling sessions were performed with a single participant, a small business owner who has been suffering from physical tensions and pain caused by exposure of daily mental and physical stress over long period of time. The interview and counseling sessions were used to find the participant`s problems which cause stress. A checklist on the participant`s body feeling toward stress and meditation journals on applying feeling meditation were used and analyzed. In addition, observation was made on changes in intensity of body feeling each time. For before and after counseling analysis, Spielberger`s Anxiety Expression Scale and the State-Trait Anger Scale, and the Ways of Coping Scales were used. Results: Feeling meditation helped the participant to realize the body feeling toward the tension on the head and shoulder as well as spinal pain and a migraine and influenced positively the participant`s ability to cope with daily stress. Discussion: This study discussed how feeling meditation influences the participant`s ability to cope with daily stress. Using feeling meditation as a tool, mitigating one`s stress could be achieved. Conclusion: The study demonstrated that feeling meditation had a positive effect on one`s stress reduction.. Practicing feeling meditation could help improving one`s ability to cope with daily stress and therefore lead one`s stress reduction.
