울릉도에 근무하는 초등학교 교사 삶의 경험에 관한 내러티브 탐구

A Narrative Inquiry of the Life Experiences of Elementary School Teachers Working on Ulleungdo

본 연구는 울릉도에 살아가는 초등학교 교사의 삶에 관한 내러티브 탐구이다. 대한민국 동쪽 끝 울릉도 초등학교에도 교사로서 삶을 살아가는 이들이 있다. 그들은 왜 울릉도라는 지역에서 교사 생활을 하고 있으며, 무엇을 바라고 있는 것인가. 본 연구는 울릉도에 살아가는 교사의 입장에서 그들의 삶을 내러티브 관점으로 살피고, 이를 시간과 공간, 개인적・사회적 관계 측면에서 해석하고자 하였다. 초등학교 교사로서 울릉도에서 살아가는 삶의 의미를 탐색한 결과 울릉도에서 초등학교 교사로서 시간은 과거와 미래를 연결하는 상징으로서 의미를 가진다. 울릉도는 그 자체의 상징성과 함께 시간과 관계의 복합적 어울림이 발생하는 공간을 의미한다. 과거와 현재 울릉도 안에서 공유하는 다양한 자원은 미래 더 나은 방향을 위해 융화되고 재편된다. 관계 차원에서 울릉도는 개인 자체의 변화와 개인과 개인 사이, 그리고 사회 차원에서 변화 가능성을 가진다. 울릉도에 살아가는 초등학교 교사의 삶이 모든 교사들의 삶을 대변할 수 없겠지만 최근 학교 현장의 다양한 이야기가 변화해 가는 상황에서 어쩌면 지난 교사들의 열망을 표현하는 한 이야기의 구조, 혹은 변화해 가는 교육 현실 안에서 사라져 가는 이야기의 한 구조일 수 있을 것이다. 그리고 본 연구를 통해 그들만의 소서사로서 삶의 단면을 살펴 볼 수 있을 것이다.

This study is a narrative inquiry of the life of elementary school teachers living on Ulleungdo. There are also people living as teachers at Ulleungdo Elementary School on the eastern end of Korea. Why are they teaching in Ulleungdo, and what are they hoping for? This study attempted to examine their lives from the perspective of teachers living on Ulleungdo from a narrative perspective and interpret them in terms of time, space, and personal and social relations. As an elementary school teacher, time as an elementary school teacher on Ulleungdo has meaning as a symbol connecting the past and the future. Ulleungdo means a space where a complex harmony of time and relationship occurs along with its own symbolism. Various resources shared within Ulleungdo Island in the past and present are harmonized and reorganized for a better direction in the future. At the relationship level, Ulleungdo has the potential to change between individuals and individuals, and at the social level. The lives of elementary school teachers living on Ulleungdo may not represent the lives of all teachers, but at a time when various stories in the school field are changing recently, it may be a structure of a story that expresses the aspirations of past teachers, or a structure of a story that disappears in the changing educational reality. And through this study, you will be able to understand the lives of Ulleungdo teachers.
